Let’s FOOD PREP FRIDAY together…
Welcome back to Food Prep Friday, where I prep food/ingredients for the upcoming week. Most weeks are different, stocking up on convenience foods, baking, rotating lunchbox items depending on what needs to be restocked and preparing items I need for the next week’s meals. To read more about how and why I Food Prep – check out the first Food Prep Friday episode blog post here.
Since starting Food Prep Friday I have noticed such a difference in my daily time in the kitchen, it has brought massive awareness for me and now I’m always looking for ways to make my life easier and be more resourceful in the kitchen.

As mentioned in the Food Prep Friday YouTube episode I will start prepping meals on the day of our grocery shop and I will be sharing an episode on that soon!
Food Prep Friday Planning Tools
I utilise Thermomix’s cookidoo app for anything I will be making in the Thermomix on Food Prep Friday and my running Food Prep Friday list on Asana of everything I’m making to organise what I need to prepare. I try to prep as much food as I can on the day, if I can’t get it all done I move it to next week’s food prep day. Everything I do make on a Food Prep Friday you can do without a Thermomix, I just love the ease of making food with one (and yes I 1000% recommend them).
To prepare for a Food Prep Friday…
To have a stress-free food prep day I need to be as organised as possible and know exactly what I am making on the day, so on the day I am literally just preparing food (bear in mind I also need to film).
Which is why I make sure I do these things before Friday:
- Create a list of food to make on Asana
- Load all of the food items on the Thermomix Cookidoo app onto ‘my week’ scheduled for Friday
- Check I have all necessary ingredients
- Defrost any meat or pastry, soften butter etc
- Have the dishes done and the dishwasher empty
- Eat before I start food prepping
- Have a pen, paper and grocery list on the bench for taking notes
- Have all the recipes accessible.
Food Prep Goal
Today’s main focus for Food Prep Friday is to make our food supply last until the next food shop which will be next week. So I need to get creative and resourceful with what ingredients I have with my main priority being lunchbox fillers.
Today I’m making:
- Grated cheese
- Pizza scrolls
- Brown sugar
- Chocolate muffins
- Dishwasher powder
- Lemonade ice blocks
- Hummus
- Cut carrots
- Pancake mix jar
What I made:
- 227 grams grated mix of tasty and edam cheese – I love having the convenience of having grated cheese on hand for the week for meals and lunches without added preservatives and anti-caking agents.
- x18 Pizza scrolls – pizza dough with pizza sauce, Italian herbs, ham and cheese.
- 511 grams brown sugar – using 454g white sugar and 57g molasses (I had some left over from making Christmas gingerbread cookies).
- x12 Chocolate muffins – I choose a one bowl oil based chocolate cake recipe for these muffins as its perfect if you are running low on butter.
- 1 batch baked Chocolate Chip Cookies – frozen from Food Prep Friday Episode 2.
- Dishwasher powder – 2 cups baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid.
- Pancake mix jar top up.
- x6 Lemonade ice blocks – Lemonade recipe made into ice blocks and a 1.5 litres couple bottles of lemonade.
- Hummus – I adapted the recipe to replace tahini with peanut butter and added ice.
- Cut carrots stored in water in a glass jar – healthy snack ready to access.
Food Prep Tips:
- If making any bread products start with your doughs first so you have time for the proving and baking, focusing on preparing other items while the doughs are proving then baking everything while the oven is on.
- Plan your food prep order in ways to save on dishes.
- Store grated cheese in an airtight glass container for one week.
- If you’re not using a food processor to make brown sugar use caster sugar.
- Adding a sprinkling of chocolate chips to the top of muffins adds a delicious element as well as texture to the muffins.
- Save your carrot peels for your vege/chicken stock freezer stash.
That’s a Food Prep wrap
